Hi Everyone. I don’t mean to try your patience, but I’m testing out how to embed Spotify playlists into Substack posts. Here’s my first attempt. These are 20 songs from the 1970s that I thought of off the top of my head. I doubt that together they make up all of my 1970s top favorites. I probably should have included some Motown (Marvin Gaye). And as I’m thinking about it, Peter Frampton, Jim Croce, and Lynyrd Skynyrd should probably have been in there too. But as I said, this is a test. I hope some of you enjoy these songs and hear a few that are new to you (such as by Stuff and Ray Manzarek).

I am always loved the song September by Earth Wind and Fire and the music of CCR which just makes it into the 1970s.
Bill,
thanks for sharing! :-)
Before even looking at your list I wondered: will he post 'Killing me Softly'? That song is Absolute Genius. Roberta Flack's version is my favourite.
Let's cheat a bit. 1969. Roberta Flack 'The first time ever I saw your face', one of the greatest love songs ever written;

I've often told my boys, born in 1991 and 1994, that the best songs ever written were from the decade 1967-1977. The Beatles (Sergeant Pepper album), Carole King (You've got a friend , Tapestry album), James Taylor (Fire and Rain album), Don Maclean (Vincent, Bye Bye Miss American Pie), John Prine, Bee Gees, Jim Croce (Operator, Time in a Bottle), and so many many others.
And of course Billy Joel's 'Piano Man' is an absolute killer.
We we're truly blessed with such beautiful music!
